Meaningful Conversations

Have visits with your loved one become harder, awkward, or more emotional? Visiting a loved one who is living with cognitive impairment can feel emotional, uncertain, and sometimes overwhelming. The right tools can turn those visits into calm, meaningful moments that strengthen connection rather than create stress.

Meaningful Conversations is a two-part series designed to help families, friends, and caregivers improve communication and create more positive visiting experiences. Taught by Pat Kaplan and Judy Rhodes, RN, this class offers practical skills you can begin using right away.

What You Will Learn

This series is warm, supportive, and designed to help you feel more prepared each time. You will learn the following skills:

  • The dos and don’ts of communicating with someone who has cognitive impairment.
  • How to reduce stress for both the visitor and the patient.
  • Role-playing exercises that build confidence.
  • How to create a reminiscence box to spark joyful memories.
  • Journaling techniques to reflect on your visits and improve over time.

Classes are free of charge! To sign up for the next session or to learn more information, please call (760) 776-3100
